The kernel of the Initiative is an international
Working Group whose aims are:
- to identify, and contribute to the laying of, The Scientific
Foundations of Informatics as an Engineering Discipline; as well as
- to act as a
cue for the production of a research and development agenda for the
emerging engineering discipline.
The main role of this Working Group is:
- to organise and steer a series of invitation only
Workshops, bringing together eminent academics and practitioners;
- to commission
background papers to focus discussion at the Workshops and to
summarise their outcomes;
- to organise a public
information base in which the background papers and related material
is made available;
- to describe research and development projects elaborating the outcomes
of the Working Group's activities and
related projects undertaken in the wider community;
- to disseminate the results of the Working Group's activities through
publications and a series of
Summer Schools.
The ethos of the CUE Initiative is epitomized in these aims and means as
well as in its
modus operandi.The Initiative is meant to foster the above mentioned
aims, and as such, has no specific technological focus.
